Star Feminine Band is an all-girl musical group from Benin using their music to champion gender equality and girls’ rights. Formed in 2016 by musician André Balaguemon, the band consists of young girls from Natitingou who, despite no prior musical experience, now perform globally. Their songs tackle social issues such as forced marriage and education, as heard in Le Mariage Forcé. In 2023, UNICEF named them Young Champions for Girls’ Rights, recognizing their advocacy. Their vibrant fusion of Afrobeat, funk, and Beninese folklore amplifies their message, inspiring young girls to challenge societal barriers and fight for a more just world.
