Anabela Lemos is a Mozambican environmental justice activist and Director of Justiça Ambiental! (JA!), a leading organization fighting against exploitative mega-projects in Mozambique. For over 20 years, she has championed grassroots and global advocacy against fossil fuel extraction, displacement, and environmental destruction. JA!’s efforts have successfully delayed the Mozambique LNG project and challenged corporate impunity. Lemos, a recipient of the 2024 Right Livelihood Award, continues to empower communities to defend their rights despite political oppression and personal threats. Her relentless activism amplifies local voices and advances climate justice in one of Africa’s most contested environmental battlegrounds.
